In a recent blog post on biztipsblog.com, Ellen Britt, a list-building expert and cofounder of Marketing Qi, outlined her "3 C's" for getting your brand known no matter the size of your budget. I agree with her advice and want to share some excerpts from her article here.
- Claim your expertise: With all of the talk lately about finding your niche, you would think this step would already have been done. But surprisingly, even though you may have staked your claim in a particular niche, you may not have done so with regards to your expertise. The good news is that it's easy to do. You simply claim your expertise right now, this very minute. Refer to yourself as an expert in interviews, in your articles, and in your bio. Before long, others will see you as an expert too.
- Cultivate your virtual presence: Provided your target market is online (and these days, that is certainly likely), begin to establish your online visibility. There are literally dozens of ways to increase your virtual footprint, but it goes without saying that you should at least have a presence on Twitter and Facebook, and if your audience is a corporate one, possibly a LinkedIn account as well. There should not be a day that goes by without you posting something of value on both Twitter and Facebook, preferably more than several times a day. The ease with which you can get noticed on these social platforms is truly astounding!
- Capture the moment at live events: There really is no substitute for going to live events. Use a live event as a platform to increase your visibility. Always carry a camera, and get your picture taken with speakers, the event organizer, and other guests. Post those pictures to your Facebook page and the online picture-sharing site Flickr, and tag them appropriately. Tweet about your experience live from the event, using the Twitter handles of the speakers or other recognizable guests in your niche. When you get back home, do follow-up blog posts, and catch up with people you met at the event by posting to their Facebook pages and tweeting about them.
So go on, get out there, and give your brand visibility a big step up!
